Enhance WordPress Media with Modern Image Formats
Modern Image Formats is a WordPress plugin designed to optimize media uploads by adding support for WebP and AVIF image formats. This plugin automatically generates AVIF images when the hosting server supports it; otherwise, it falls back to WebP as the output format. Users can easily select their preferred output format under the Settings > Media section. It's important to note that the plugin only generates modern image formats for new uploads, meaning pre-existing images will require regeneration to take advantage of these formats. Users can utilize tools like Regenerate Thumbnails or WP-CLI to regenerate images as needed.
The plugin offers flexibility in handling original uploads, as it generates modern image formats only for sub-sizes of JPEG or PNG uploads by default. Users can modify this behavior with a simple checkbox in the Settings > Media section, allowing both original and modern formats to be created for each sub-size. However, this setting will only apply to newly uploaded images. Formerly known as WebP Uploads, this plugin enhances WordPress media management by supporting modern image formats.
